Sample plan for a 7-month-old working on independent sleep — night 4 of 14
Moving to phase 2 — you'll sit halfway between the crib and the door. Voice comfort only, no touching.
Protest: 10-15 minutes
Wakeups: 2-3 (improving from 4-5)
- Complete bedtime routine by 19:00
- Place baby in crib drowsy but awake
- Sit in chair halfway to door, use voice only: 'I'm right here'
Before midnight: wait 5 min, then brief voice check. After midnight: wait 8 min. Early morning (after 5am): treat as morning if within 30 min of wake time.
Night 4 is often a turning point. Your baby is learning a new skill — it takes practice. You're doing the right thing.

I built DodoCare so no parent has to spend another night wondering if it gets better. It does.
A few weeks ago, I was up every two hours with my son. Every night. White noise, rocking, co-sleeping — I tried it all, read every blog at 3am. Nothing lasted. Then I studied what certified sleep consultants actually do. By night 5, he slept through.
